Healthy weight and exercise for kids
Keep the focus on participation, family routines and goals that fit a child who is still growing.

Begin with the right goal
A child’s weight should be considered alongside growth and health. Depending on the individual, a healthcare professional may recommend maintaining weight, changing the pace of weight gain or another approach. An adult-style target is not an appropriate default.
Choose a movement goal your child understands
Examples include trying an unfamiliar activity, learning a skill or joining a session more consistently. Agree a goal with the coach that your child can describe in their own words. Keep conversations respectful and avoid comparing children’s bodies.
Build a routine the family can support
Consider travel, school commitments, the child’s interests and who will help them get ready. A plan that sounds impressive but cannot fit family life is difficult to sustain. Review the experience, not only attendance or numbers on a scale.
Coordinate support when needed
Dietary treatment and clinical weight goals require qualified advice. Ask a coach how they work within that guidance. Transform Kid’s Healthy Weight Management program provides exercise coaching and progress conversations without promising rapid weight loss.
