A parent’s guide to observing feet and movement

This visual check compares heel position, arches and common movement signs. It offers preliminary screening, helping you consider whether to keep monitoring or arrange an in-person assessment.

A free visual flat feet screening tool

Transform Kid’s visual tool helps parents observe heel position, foot arches and leg alignment at home. It uses illustrations and a short questionnaire to show three levels of follow-up: green, amber or red.

This free tool is a preliminary step before an in-person assessment. It cannot diagnose flat feet. If your child has pain, stiffness, difficulty walking or a clear difference between the two feet, seek advice from a qualified healthcare professional.

What are flat feet in children?

Flat feet have a low arch, so much of the sole touches the floor when standing. Arches are often less visible in young children while their feet are developing. Appearance alone does not establish a medical problem.

Consider both appearance and movement: heel and ankle position, discomfort, fatigue, frequent tripping and unusual footwear wear.

Signs worth observing

  • Low or less visible arches when standing.
  • Heels or ankles that appear to tilt inward.
  • Feet that spread or point outward when walking or running.
  • Fatigue or pain in the feet, ankles, lower legs or knees.
  • Frequent tripping, difficulty balancing or reluctance to be active.
  • A clear difference between feet or uneven footwear wear.

How to observe your child’s feet at home

Ask your child to stand naturally, barefoot, on a flat surface. Observe the heels from behind, then the arches from the inner side. Compare both feet and watch how they point during walking. No photo upload is needed for this tool.

Choose the closest heel, arch and alignment images, then select any additional signs you have noticed. The tool uses these answers to indicate a suggested level of follow-up.

When should you seek an in-person assessment?

Seek an assessment for persistent pain or fatigue, stiff ankles, limited movement or a clear difference between the feet. An in-person review can consider posture, alignment, balance and movement together.

A note for parents: Online screening cannot replace a medical diagnosis. For significant pain, swelling, an injury or difficulty walking, seek appropriate medical care.

How can Transform Kid help?

At Transform Kid, coaches observe posture and movement in a child-friendly setting. The focus is age-appropriate activity, body control, balance and positive movement habits.

After screening, families can discuss suitable follow-up. Signs that need medical expertise should be assessed by a qualified healthcare professional rather than judged from an online result alone.

Why observe changes over time?

  • Understand how your child stands and moves.
  • Review activity habits and suitable footwear.
  • Notice changes in both feet over time.
  • Know when to seek a more detailed assessment.

Frequently asked questions

Can this confirm that a child has flat feet?

No. This tool provides visual screening and suggested levels of follow-up. Diagnosis requires an in-person assessment by an appropriate healthcare professional.

What ages can use this tool?

Parents can use the observations for children aged 2 and older. Young children’s arches are still developing, so movement and any accompanying symptoms also matter.

Should I worry about a low arch without pain?

Not necessarily. Many children with low arches move comfortably. Keep an eye on walking, symmetry and any discomfort or fatigue during activity.

When could an in-person movement assessment help?

An amber or red result can prompt further assessment. For pain, stiffness or difficulty walking, consult a healthcare professional; a coach can separately review movement and activity needs.

Where are the results sent?

When you consent and request results, the tool sends the summary to transformgym.vn@gmail.com. The email fallback opens a draft that you can review before sending.

Explore an in-person movement assessment

A coach can observe posture, foot and leg alignment, and movement to discuss an appropriate activity program.
