Getting started

Choosing movement activities for children aged 4–6

Questions to ask when considering a coached activity for a younger child, from instructions to the setting.

Age is a starting question, not the whole answer

Children in the same age group can differ in attention, confidence and experience. When considering a program, describe your child’s experience and ask the provider how it assesses readiness. This guide does not confirm enrollment eligibility at a particular Transform Kid location.

Look closely at the instructions

Ask how the coach demonstrates an activity, checks understanding and helps a child who wants to watch before trying. Discuss how parents are involved and what happens if the child needs a break.

Ask about the environment

  • Who supervises the activity and transitions between tasks?
  • How are activities adapted to different abilities?
  • How are comfort and willingness considered?
  • What should a parent know before the first visit?

Choose the next step together

A first conversation should clarify suitability and expectations without pressure to reach a performance target. Share any relevant professional advice through the process agreed with the team. Contact Transform Kid to confirm current age suitability, location and language support before planning a visit.
