Safe exercise habits: questions to ask a children’s coach
Use these questions to understand supervision, communication and the way activities are adapted.

Ask for a clear explanation
Before starting, ask the coach to explain what a session includes, how the child will learn a movement and how the challenge will be adjusted. Be cautious when the explanation focuses only on difficult exercises or dramatic results.
Make communication part of the plan
Agree how your child can say that something hurts, feels confusing or needs a pause. Ask who parents should speak to about a concern. Relevant medical advice should be shared through an appropriate process and considered before activity is recommended.
Understand supervision
Ask how many children share a coach, where the coach will be during practice and how equipment is selected. For resistance exercise, appropriate instruction and supervision are central considerations; the activity should not be treated as a contest to lift the most.
Review more than performance
Discuss understanding, comfort and consistency alongside skills. A plan should allow adjustments rather than pressure a child to keep up with someone else. Read Your Child’s Journey for the questions we encourage families to bring to Transform Kid.
